We have four kinds of products. Which one you need depends on what you want: a full tail for a competition, lasting extra length in mane or tail, hair to work with yourself, or a forelock. The tail extension, also called a tail piece or switch tail, gives your horse a full, long tail in no time for shows and competitions. It is made of 100% real horse hair, weighs 230 grams and is about 90 cm long. There is a cotton loop at the top and the hair is knotted in layers, so the tail fans out a little wider from the top. You choose from 17 standard colours.
The tail extension for ponies is built like the one for horses, but lighter and shorter: it weighs 170 grams and is 72 to 76 cm long. It also has a cotton loop at the top and is made of 100% real horse hair. That way the tail suits the proportions of a pony. The same 17 standard colours are available, and with good care a tail extension lasts for years.
With I-tip extensions you make a tail thicker or longer. You attach them yourself with micro rings and pliers, without glue, wax or heat, so the natural tail can keep growing. The extensions are 84 cm or longer and come in 7 standard colours. A pack contains 25, 50, 75 or 100 extensions, micro rings, a loop needle, micro ring pliers and a manual. For more thickness choose 25 to 50 extensions, for more length 50 to 100.
The I-tip extensions for manes are made of 100% real mane hair and are about 35 cm long. They come in 7 standard colours and stay in for roughly 4 to 6 months. The biggest advantage is that you can reuse them: when you take them out you only replace the thinner extensions and fit the good ones again. We sell loose hair per bundle of 100 grams, sorted to one length. Tail hair is about 88 cm long and comes in 5 colours, mane hair is about 35 cm. The hair is strong and thick and braids in well. Fitted properly it stays in for 5 to 6 months on average. The braided-in lock is always thicker than your own hair, so leave loose hairs between the braids to cover everything. Makers also use it for brushes, jewellery, art, theatre and stringed instruments.
If your horse naturally has a thin forelock, a clip-in forelock piece of real mane hair adds volume straight away. It is handmade, about 30 to 38 cm long and about 5 cm wide, and comes in 8 colours. You clip it in yourself with the clip on the back and take it out again, without glue or wax. If it is too long, you trim it to size. Handy for competitions and inspections.
Horse hair is a versatile natural material for practical and creative projects. Riders mostly use it to repair, lengthen or thicken manes and tails. Because it is real hair, it blends in with the horse’s own hair.

Colour is the hardest part of ordering. Every variant shows a colour swatch with a number, but a photo of your own horse says more. Send us a photo of the tail or mane and we will tell you for free which colour fits.
The tail extensions come in 17 standard colours: Natural Black, Dyed Black, Pure White, Natural White, Cream White, Light Chestnut, Dark Chestnut, Medium Chestnut, Light Grey, Medium Grey, Dark Grey, White & Light Chestnut, Light Chestnut & Flaxen, Black, Chestnut & Flaxen, Mixed, Flaxen and Palomino. If your colour is not among them, just ask: we can supply almost any colour.
Take the photo in daylight, without flash or filter: one of the whole tail and one close up at the root.
A DIY I-tip pack contains everything you need: extensions, micro rings, a loop needle, micro ring pliers and a manual. We prefer micro rings with a silicone layer on the inside, because they slip less easily. Fitting is done without heat, so it is safe for you and your horse.

Real horse hair lasts longer if you look after it well. It works slightly differently for each product.
Brush the tail extension gently, start at the ends and work out tangles carefully. Wash the hair with a mild shampoo and let it air dry. Store the tail extension dry and flat. With good care a tail extension can be used for years, also on several horses of the same colour.
Brush from the bottom up and keep your hand close to the root. Work out tangles with calm movements. Use a suitable shampoo and conditioner for horse hair and keep shampoo, conditioner and detangler away from the micro rings, otherwise they can start to slip. Rinse the hair well.
The forelock piece is made of 100% real mane hair and is cared for like your horse’s own hair. Comb it out gently with a wide comb or brush, always from the bottom up. Do not spray detangler directly on the clip, as it may come loose. Wash it with a mild shampoo when needed and let it air dry.
Comb out tangles before you store loose extensions or loose bundles, and keep them dry. Braided-in hair is treated like the horse’s own hair: brush it gently and wash it with a mild shampoo when needed.

The forelock piece sits in the horse’s own hair with a clip, without glue or wax. You take it out yourself and can trim it if it is too long.
Shipping is free in the Netherlands and costs €5 to the rest of the EU. You usually have your order within 1 to 3 working days. If a tail extension or forelock piece is out of stock, delivery takes about 14 days.
