Horse hair extension care tips

Our horse hair extension care tips! Because, of course, you want to enjoy your purchased horse hair extensions for a long time, we have a number of golden tips for you. If you follow these tips when caring for your horse hair extensions, you will find that they are more than worth your money!

Brushing and detangling horse hair extensions

Brush the tail about once a week.
You can use a special extension brush for this, which is gentle on the hair.
It is important to make this a regular part of your grooming routine.
Always do this calmly, lovingly and patiently, without pulling hard on the hair.

Start at the bottom of the tail, so you can tackle one tangle at a time.
Hold your horse's tail just below the attachment point of the extensions in your hand while brushing, so you pull on the horse hair extensions as little as possible.
This prevents you from pulling out the hairs or the extensions when you hit a tangle.
Use slow, flowing strokes instead of pulling your brush through the hair.
This will help you work out knots gradually and gently, reducing breakage.

Brush the tail with extensions once a week and, in between, use your fingers to detangle the tail. By using your fingers, you are more sensitive to knots and tangles and can work your way through the tail without extra, unnecessary brushing.
Whether you use your fingers or a brush, always start at the bottom of the tail and work your way up.

Using care products on horse hair extensions

Optionally apply a detangler to the tail before brushing.
Make sure you stay well below the attachment point of the extensions with the detangler, as they could otherwise slip out.
Hair that is regularly treated with a detangling product will be smoother.
Should the extensions still slip and fall out, you can simply keep them for next time when you reattach them.
Optionally wear a pair of old riding gloves when using the detangler. Not only do they protect your hands, the detangler also sticks a little to the gloves and lets your fingers glide through the tail more easily.

When you wash your horse's tail with shampoo and a conditioner, make sure the conditioner does NOT come onto the attachment point of the extensions but stays well below it, as this could make them slip out. Should the extensions still slip and fall out, you can simply keep them again for next time when you reattach them.

When your horse has a long tail for the first time in a long while, it can happen that he uses it vigorously by swishing his tail.
If that is the case, we recommend you plait the tail for the first period.
Because they suddenly have a tail, they sometimes use it vigorously, causing them to get caught on things and pull hairs out.
