Which horsehair colour matches your horse?

The right colour makes the difference between a natural match and extensions that can be seen from a little distance. So don't compare with a product photo alone, but with your own horse's hair.

If you're unsure, the best photo match is free: send us a clear photo of the tail, mane or forelock. We assess the shade and give you personal advice.

Choose the colour that matches your horse

The basic options are black, three sorrel shades, two blond shades, three grey shades, palomino, white and mixed. The available colours vary per product.

ColourWhat to look for
BlackChoose black for a tail or mane that is almost completely black. Watch out for sun-bleached patches and brownish tips; they may need a different shade.
Dark sorrelA deep sorrel, without the black-patched character of black.
Medium sorrelThe usual medium sorrel. Compare mainly with the sides and the transition to lighter hair.
Light sorrelA warmer, lighter sorrel with less depth than medium sorrel.
Light blondSuits very light, cream-coloured hair.
Natural blondA warmer, natural blond shade. Natural blond does not automatically mean white.
Light greyA silvery, light grey impression, often with warmer undertones.
Medium greyThe middle between light grey and dark grey.
Dark greyA deep grey shade that can look even darker in the sun.
PalominoA warm, golden to copper-coloured impression. Photography with different colour temperatures can make this shade look misleading.
WhiteChoose white for a bright white or cream-coloured tail. Check in daylight whether a yellow or grey undertone is present.
MixedA multi-coloured match. Suitable when the tail or mane has several shades and transitions in one place.

The product photo gives the best impression of the available colour. Colour on a screen can look warmer, cooler, lighter or darker than the real hair.

Send a good photo for a free colour match

Preferably use a smartphone and take the photo in daylight, ideally outdoors. Turn off the filters and the beauty mode.

  1. Take an overall photo of the full tail, forelock or mane.
  2. Take a detail photo close to the base, where the colour is clearest.
  3. Add a photo in the shade and a photo in direct sunlight.
  4. Say whether it's about the tail, mane or forelock and which product you're considering.

Send your photos via WhatsApp (+31 6 42 90 95 41) and we will give you personal colour advice.

If you're not sure which shade comes closest, wait for our colour advice before ordering. Once confirmed, you can order the right variant straight away.

What not to do when choosing a colour

  • Don't choose on the name of the colour alone. Two horses with the same name can have different warmth and undertones.
  • Don't compare on your phone only. Use the product photo as a guide, but send a real photo for a better match.
  • Don't use a black-and-white filter, a colour filter, a flash or the automatic beauty mode.
  • Don't pick the darkest variant just because the tail looks a bit black in the shadow on the photo.
  • Don't go by the mane colour alone if the tail, forelock or the hair at the base is clearly different.
  • Don't order on instinct if you're in doubt. One free photo is faster than a wrongly chosen colour.
