What is loose horse tail hair used for?

  • Making tassels
  • Making jewellery and art
  • In theatre, on stage or at other performances
  • Restringing a stringed instrument
  • Filling cushions, covers, mattresses
  • Braiding into a horse's tail or mane
  • Making extensions

Beautiful quality tail hair. The hair is all one length, so you have an optimal fill from top to bottom. Horse tail hair is sold in a loose bundle of 100 grams.

This hair is at its best and most natural when you want to braid the tail or mane of your horse yourself. Just keep in mind that the tuft you braid in is always thicker than the tuft of your own hair. After all, you want to create volume. Also always leave loose hairs between the different braids to cover everything well. Horse hair is very well suited for braiding. It is very strong and thick and stays in place for an average of about 5 months (if applied properly). The possibilities with horse hair are endless.

Available in 5 colours:

  • Light sorrel
  • Blond
  • Black
  • Dark sorrel
  • Medium sorrel

When do you use loose tail hair?

Loose tail hair is the most versatile form of horse hair we offer. Riders use it to braid extra volume into a thin or damaged tail, or to temporarily lengthen the tail without applying extensions. Because the hair is cut to one length, you have an optimal fill from top to bottom.

Outside of riding, loose tail hair is also popular with artists, craftsmen and cosplayers. It is used to make tassels and brushes, to rehair violin bows, to craft jewellery, and as a material for theatre and costume design. The possibilities are endless.

How do you work with loose tail hair?

Do you want to braid the hair into your horse's tail? Divide the tail into small equal tufts and braid the loose hair in with them. Always keep the braided tuft slightly thicker than your horse's own hair — this creates the desired volume. Horse hair is strong and thick and stays in place for an average of about 5 months if braided in correctly.
